Over 60 and Active: Wellness Secrets for Life on the Road

Whatever your age you want to be in your best health. Especially while traveling. For those of us over 60, extra steps are usually needed to remain active and make trips as enjoyable as when we were younger. It's important to prioritize wellness and maintain a healthy lifestyle on the road taking into consideration activities you have planned. In this post, we will share some of our wellness secrets that can help you stay active and vibrant during your adventures.


The first leg of our trip after picking up Honey was through the mountain corridor of Colorado. This amazing stretch of highway engineering runs through Western Colorado and reaches elevations of 11,158 feet. Driving this winding section of Interstate 70 is a bit more challenging in a heavy rain. Ask how we know.

One of the key aspects of staying active over 60 is to make movement a priority. Whether you're hiking in the national forest or exploring new towns, finding ways to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine is essential. During road trips, things like walking, cycling or hiking are crucial in keeping your body flexible and alleviating joint discomforts. Eating well on the road is another significant component of maintaining wellness. Instead of relying on fast food or unhealthy snacks, opt for nutritious and balanced meals that will fuel your body for your adventures. Actually we avoid all drive thru food. Pack healthy snacks like nuts and fresh fruits to keep you energized throughout the day along with lots of pure water. Since we've packed everything we need for off-grid camping it is easy to cook simple and delicious using fresh and local ingredients whenever possible. Farmer's markets are wonderful. This trip we wandered into one such market where we met the folks from Bar-W Beef and enjoyed an amazing burger that night from our camp stove!


Also important for us is staying on top of our supplement routine, including B vitamins for energy and enzymes for digestive health -- priority supplements for traveling. Keep your daily water intake at a good level. Typically that's half your body weight in ounces* and more when in drier climates and higher elevations. Anyone who has ever encountered travel-related tummy or elimination issues will know these tips are huge.


Staying connected with nature can also have a positive impact on your overall well-being. Take the time to appreciate the natural beauty around you, whether it's the tranquil forests or the stunning mountain views. Spending time outdoors can help reduce stress, boost your mood, and improve your physical health. After all, isn't that what camping is all about? Making prayer and time reading a devotional part your days is good -- don't forgo the routines you follow at home. Simply reflecting on the blessings in your life comes easy while enjoying travels through the countryside.
